“.Despite the value of open bibliographic resources, they can involve inconsistencies that should be solved for better accuracy. As an example, OpenCitations mistakenly includes 1370 self-citations and 1498 symmetric citations as of April 30, 20221 . As well, they can involve several biases that can provide a distorted mirror of the research efforts across the world (Martín-Martín, Thelwall, Orduna-Malea, & Delgado López-Cózar, 2021). That is why these databases need to be enhanced from the perspective of data modeling, data collection, and data reuse. This goes in line with the current perspective of the European Union on reforming research assessment (CoARA, 2022). In this topical collection, we are honored to feature novel research works in the context of allowing the automatic generation of realtime research assessment reports based on open bibliographic resources. We are happy to host research efforts emphasizing the importance of open research data as a basis for transparent and responsible research assessment, assessing the data quality of open resources to be used in real-time research evaluation, and providing implementations of how online databases can be combined to feed dashboards for real-time scholarly assessment….”

Wikidata and the bibliography of life [PeerJ]
Abstract: Biological taxonomy rests on a long tail of publications spanning nearly three centuries. Not only is this literature vital to resolving disputes about taxonomy and nomenclature, for many species it represents a key source—indeed sometimes the only source—of information about that species. Unlike other disciplines such as biomedicine, the taxonomic community lacks a centralised, curated literature database (the “bibliography of life”). This article argues that Wikidata can be that database as it has flexible and sophisticated models of bibliographic information, and an active community of people and programs (“bots”) adding, editing, and curating that information.
Saunders | Review of Mapping Scholarly Communication Infrastructure: A Bibliographic Scan of Digital Scholarly Communication Infrastructure | Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication
“In The Bibliographic Scan of Digital Scholarly Communication Infrastructure, author David Lewis provides a useful and succinct overview of recent literature and trendsetters in digital infrastructure that supports the publishing cycle. [A review of Lewis’s scan.]

Bibliography – Workshop on Governing Knowledge Commons
“This page contains links to bibliographies of relevant published research in the area of knowledge commons and related fields. The bibliographies include both case studies of knowledge commons and theoretical and conceptual research.
The initial public versions of the bibliographies are being shared as of September 2021. They will be updated from time to time.
Each bibliography is organized via Zotero, an open source reference management tool, for each of use, including exporting. To access and use the bibliographies, visitors will need to create an account at Zotero. Zotero accounts are free….”
Academic Library as Scholarly Publisher Bibliography
“The Academic Library as Scholarly Publisher Bibliography includes over 175 selected English-language articles, books, and technical reports that are useful in understanding the digital scholarly publishing activities of academic libraries since the late 1980’s, especially their open access book and journal publishing activities. The bibliography covers the following subtopics: pioneering academic library publishing projects in the 1980’s and 1990’s, early digital journals and serials published by librarians (as distinct from libraries), library-based scholarly publishing since the Budapest Open Access Initiative, technical publishing infrastructure, and library and university press mergers/partnerships and other relevant works….”

Frontiers | CADRE: A Collaborative, Cloud-Based Solution for Big Bibliographic Data Research in Academic Libraries | Big Data
“Big bibliographic datasets hold promise for revolutionizing the scientific enterprise when combined with state-of-the-science computational capabilities. Yet, hosting proprietary and open big bibliographic datasets poses significant difficulties for libraries, both large and small. Libraries face significant barriers to hosting such assets, including cost and expertise, which has limited their ability to provide stewardship for big datasets, and thus has hampered researchers’ access to them. What is needed is a solution to address the libraries’ and researchers’ joint needs. This article outlines the theoretical framework that underpins the Collaborative Archive and Data Research Environment project. We recommend a shared cloud-based infrastructure to address this need built on five pillars: 1) Community–a community of libraries and industry partners who support and maintain the platform and a community of researchers who use it; 2) Access–the sharing platform should be accessible and affordable to both proprietary data customers and the general public; 3) Data-Centric–the platform is optimized for efficient and high-quality bibliographic data services, satisfying diverse data needs; 4) Reproducibility–the platform should be designed to foster and encourage reproducible research; 5) Empowerment—the platform should empower researchers to perform big data analytics on the hosted datasets. In this article, we describe the many facets of the problem faced by American academic libraries and researchers wanting to work with big datasets. We propose a practical solution based on the five pillars: The Collaborative Archive and Data Research Environment. Finally, we address potential barriers to implementing this solution and strategies for overcoming them.”
Economics of Scholarly Monographs | Center for Research on Equitable and Open Scholarship
“There is ongoing tension between the desire of scholars to share their work widely and openly, and the need to fund the infrastructure and labor of publishing. One place in which this tension is most evident is in the sale of scholarly monographs. While they are a smaller fraction of scholarly communications volume, market, and readership — academic monographs continue to play an important role in the humanities (and in some qualitative social science) where they are understood to represent an important form of long-form scholarship — not readily expressible through journal-length publication; and a critical component of tenure and evaluation.
To characterize the current state of the art and practices in the economics of scholarly monographs we developed this selective bibliography. …”
How Do We Find Ourselves Here? Context for Increased Institutional Investment and Ownership of Infrastructure · Commonplace
“How have institutions become so disconnected from the workflow and publication tools that their researchers depend upon to do research, communicate it, validate it? How can this tremendous outsourcing be corrected? How can universities better understand the need for investing in public infrastructure?
We hope that this reading list will provide background and food for thought….”
